David Hammond illustrates a Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-4 flown by Oberleutnant Horst Hanning, Staffelkapitän of 2./JG2 (2. Staffel of Jagdgeschwader 2). Hanning was shot down on 15 May 1923 over Caen, France. Hanning was operating from Triqueville in northern France and was one of the 1000th enemy aircraft claimed by RAF Squadrons operating from the sector station RAF Biggin Hill, Kent, southeast of London.

David Hammond is an internationally acclaimed aviation artist, known for his stunning depictions of aviation history. His artwork has been featured on "Chandelle" fine wine labels and published in Aviation History (May 2008 edition) and the Canadian Air Force Revue (Spring 2009). His paintings are proudly displayed at the Seattle Museum of Flight and the Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust Museum in Wales, UK.
