The scene depicts a De Havilland Mosquito Mk VI of 605 Squadron, RAF, crewed by Flying Officer Alan Wagner and Flying Officer 'Pip' Orringe. On the night of 5th March in 1944, an FW 190 was destroyed over the well-lit Gardelegen Airfield in Germany. This kill was quickly followed by 2 Me 410s confirmed and a Me 410 damaged.

David Hammond is an internationally acclaimed aviation artist, known for his stunning depictions of aviation history. His artwork has been featured on "Chandelle" fine wine labels and published in Aviation History (May 2008 edition) and the Canadian Air Force Revue (Spring 2009).
